The LATINA Style Business Series (LSBS) kicked off its 2025 national tour in spectacular fashion with a two-day celebration of Latina entrepreneurship, innovation, and cultural pride in Albuquerque, NM. More than just a conference, the Albuquerque stop proved to be a dynamic convergence of creativity, community, and empowerment.
The festivities began the evening before the conference with a welcome reception at the elegant Hotel Albuquerque. In partnership with the National Institute of Flamenco, attendees were treated to an intimate flamenco performance that embodied the spirit and tradition of New Mexico’s rich artistic heritage. The night offered not just entertainment but meaningful connection as guests from across the region engaged in spirited networking and conversation, setting the tone for the powerful day ahead.
On April 10, Smith Brasher Hall at the Community College of New Mexico welcomed a diverse and passionate group of Latina entrepreneurs, professionals, and community leaders. The event opened with remarks from Lt. Governor Howie Morales and Mayor Tim Keller, both expressing their admiration for the entrepreneurial spirit and cultural strength Latinas bring to Albuquerque and the nation.
The day’s theme, “Artistry & Empowerment: Nurturing LATINA Entrepreneurs to Inspire, Innovate, and Thrive,” resonated throughout the panels and discussions. Attendees heard firsthand how Latina entrepreneurs have transformed creative passions into thriving businesses. From launching bold ventures rooted in cultural heritage to navigating complex funding systems and sustaining wellness as a business strategy, the conference provided both inspiration and practical guidance.
A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Jamila Gilbert, a Latina of Purépechan-Mexican roots, visual artist, multilingual communications leader, and astronaut. On May 25, 2023, she made history aboard Virgin Galactic’s Unity 25 mission, becoming the fourth Latina to travel to space and one of the first 100 women astronauts in history. Gilbert, a New Mexico State University alumna, captivated the audience with her powerful message about the importance of perseverance, heritage, and breaking barriers. Her story exemplified the limitless potential of Latina leadership.
The program included three dynamic panel discussions that explored the realities of launching creative ventures, building financial pathways, and sustaining success through wellness and community. Each session featured leaders from across sectors who offered insights grounded in experience, authenticity, and deep commitment to Latina advancement.
The afternoon also included a unique style showcase, “Cultura & Couture,” presented by Nationwide, and an energizing “Move & Groove” session that encouraged participants to reconnect with their creativity through movement.
The day concluded with the LATINA Style Awards, honoring exceptional women making a difference in business and beyond. Alissa Chavez, CEO & Founder, EasyFlo, Co., was named Entrepreneur of the Year for her groundbreaking work and resilience as a young Latina inventor and businesswoman. Patricia Lee Chavez, President, PLC Enterprises, received the Community Award in recognition of her longstanding contributions to uplifting women in business throughout the Albuquerque region. Jamila Gilbert was the recipient of the Trailblazer Award, acknowledging her historic achievements and her role as a national symbol of what Latinas can accomplish.
The success of the event was made possible by the generous support of its sponsors. Nationwide served as the Presenting Sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to Latina empowerment through business and leadership. Wells Fargo supported the event as Gold Sponsor, and the City of Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber served as Innovator Sponsors, ensuring the event reflected the heart of the local community.
A special thank you was extended to Patricia Lee Chavez for serving as the local consultant for the Albuquerque stop. Her leadership and deep community connections ensured the program was both impactful and locally rooted.
As the 2025 LATINA Style Business Series continues its tour across the nation, the energy, inspiration, and connections forged in Albuquerque serve as a shining example of what happens when Latina leaders are given space to shine, share, and soar.
