The Magnificent Seven
In the fifteen years since Ileana Ros-Lehtinen
was first elected to the House of
Representatives, six Latinas have joined
her. As the number of Latina
Congresswomen has increased, so has the
political strength of Hispanics across
the country - because these dynamic
women are working to address an array of
important issues that affect our
communities.
The Latinas in Congress are an extremely
accomplished group, but all of them
agree that there is much left to be
done. As Nydia Velázquez states, "We
have to be very vigilant to make sure
that our voices are heard." Linda
Sanchez represents the 39th
Congressional District in California.
She serves on the Judiciary Committee
and the Committee on Government Reform.
Fifteen years ago, there was one Latina
in Congress. Now, there are seven
magnificent women raising their voices
for the sake of their communities. We
hope that in the next fifteen we see
this number triple!
