August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM)
This month highlights the need for improving national immunization coverage levels and encourages all people to protect their health by being immunized against infectious diseases. CDC supports and encourages the efforts of state and local health departments and other immunization partners to celebrate NIAM and use this month to promote back to school immunizations, remind college students to catch up immunizations before
they move into dormitories, and remind everyone that the influenza season is only a few months away. It’s a great reminder to our nation that people of all ages require timely immunization to protect their health. You may also want to check with your state or local health department or immunization coalition to see if they have additional immunization resources you can use during NIAM or plan to celebrate the month. Study Projects Hispanic Vote in Presidential Election
A new study from the Center for Immigration Studies projects the share of Hispanic voters nationally and in battleground states for the upcoming 2012 election. Using Census Bureau data from prior election years and data collected this year we project that Hispanics will be 8.9 percent of the electorate in 2012 - a 1.5 percentage point increase from 7.4 percent in 2008.
The report also finds that Hispanics will comprise a somewhat smaller share of voters in battleground states than they do nationally.  However, there is significant variation in Hispanic shares across battleground states. The study can be found at: http://cis.org/projecting-2012-hispanic-vote-nationally-battleground-states.
