They are leading luminaries, change agents, celebrities and servant leaders—among those givers featured in our inspiring new book entitled Do Your Giving While You Are Living: Inspirational Lessons on What You Can Do Today to Make A Difference Tomorrow (Morgan James Publishing, January 2009). The book provides examples of actions people can take today to make a difference tomorrow. Our mission is to convince Americans and all those across the world of their opportunity—and obligation—to support those who are less fortunate. Join our movement of giving and share your own glow of giving with these glowing Women who are exemplary of those leading the way.

While researching this topic, we interviewed the leading philanthropists, executives in corporations, non-profit organizations, and philanthropy and asked for their examples and insights on how to make everyone’s life better by making someone else’s life brighter. Here are a few stories of some of these remarkable women. They lead by example; whether it is giving time, talents or treasures, they are dedicated to giving and brightening the lives of others.

Edie serves as Managing Director and Chair of the Diversity Executive Search Practice at Diversified Search Ray & Berndtson, the largest woman-founded and owned executive search firm in the United States. She heads the Washington Practice and the National Diversity Practice.

When President John Kennedy gave his Inaugural address, he offered the memorable challenge: “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.” When Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy were shot, Edie determined to work for the nation’s poverty programs and traveled to inner cities, migrant camps, Indian reservations and Appalachia.

A founder of the Public Affairs Group with Diversity Best Practices, the Business Women’s Network (BWN) and Best Practices in Corporate Communications, which she sold in 2001, has supported more than 250 corporations and organizations and has worked with more than 100 CEOs in support of Women and Diversity leadership. Edie is a keynote speaker for numerous organizations, a founding member of the Committee of 200.
