The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) announced former New Mexico Attorney General Patricia A. Madrid as the new Board Chair. “I am honored to serve at MALDEF, an organization advocating for our community’s best interests in our nation’s schools, workplaces and federal and local courts,” stated Madrid. “As Board Chair, I plan to rely on the diverse experiences of the Board to strengthen our ability to support MALDEF and its mission.”

Monument Policy Group, LLC announced Jessica Herrera-Flanigan the firms’ partner. She joins the firm from the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security, where she served as the Staff Director and General Counsel chaired by Representative Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.). Among her numerous honors she has been named one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in the U.S. “I have had the great fortune during my time in government to work with great policy-makers including Chairman Thompson and the Committee’s other Members,” she says. “I look forward to sharing my experiences with the amazing team at Monument Policy Group. I am honored to be joining the firm, which has forged a reputation as being both effective and bipartisan.”

Francia Raisa
Southern Californian, Francia Raisa has become one of Hollywood’s up and coming stars. Born July 26, 1988 to Mexican mother Virginia Almendarez and Honduran father Maximo Renan Almendarez Coello, Raisa is the daughter of the winning Latin radio personality “El Cucuy,” in Los Angeles on 97.9 FM, La Raza.

Raisa’s career began at the early age of five. She took dance lessons, explored karate, ice skating, stepping on to booking acting jobs when she was a junior in High School, where she started to model for print ads, star in commercials later on starring on Bring It On: All or Nothing. “I love acting,” she shares. “Just learning about different characters and becoming them. I love the camera, too. Above all though, I love that with the little that I’ve done so far, I’ve been such a big inspiration in young people’s lives. I’ve always wanted to be that person that just changed someone’s life with something so simple and the entertainment industry is the easiest and best way to do it.”

She has been the lead female role of MGM’s ABC Family TV movie, “The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing the Dream”, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”

Cindy E. Gonzalez
Mendoza Berger & Company, LLP recently announced Cindy E. Gonzalez as Tax Partner in the Orange County Office in Irvine, California. Under her new post, Gonzalez is responsible for managing all tax department operations for the Irving Office.

Born to first generation immigrant parents from Guatemala, she is one of three daughters who graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a bachelor’s degree of science in accounting. She has more than 10 years of experience providing compliance services for individuals. In addition, she has over five years of experience providing estate planning for high net worth individuals and compliance services for trusts, gifts and estates. She is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and is currently acquiring a Masters in Taxation degree at Golden Gate University. Gonzalez is actively involved as a founding member of Women Looking Forward of the Orange County United Way as well as with the Latino Leadership Committee of Mission Hospital.
 


Cristina Lopez
The National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI) recently announced the appointment of Cristina Lopez as NHLI’s new president. An experienced non-profit manager, Lopez comes to NHLI from the Center for Community Change, an advocacy organization based in Washington D.C, where she served as the deputy executive director.

Lopez has extensive experience within the Hispanic/Latino community, women’s groups, farm-worker and immigrant-led groups. She has also contributed in senior leadership roles with the Academy for Educational Development; Mosaica; the Center for Non-profit Development and Pluralism, and the National Council of La Raza. She is also highly regarded for her advocacy and coalition-building work, and community organizing in immigration issues.
