National Council of
La Raza (NCLR)
On March
4, 2008, the National Council of
La Raza (NCLR) held its annual
gala event in Washington D.C.
The 2008 NCLR Capital Awards
gala brought together more than
800 elected and appointed
officials, Hispanic leaders,
community activists, executives
from Fortune 500 companies. This
year, NCLR honored Rep. Lincoln
Diaz-Balart (R-FL) and Rep.
Hilda Solis (D-CA).

United Latin American Citizens
and its corporate alliance
celebrated its 11th annual LULAC
National Legislative Awards Gala
& Policy Summit in Washington
D.C. Honorees included U.S.
Congressman Rubén Hinojosa, U.S.
Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen
and U.S. Congresswoman Lucille
Roybal-Allard.

This year,
the National Association of
Hispanic Publications (NAHP)
held its Media & Legislative
Summit on February 13-14 in
Washington D.C. The summit
focused on issues to ascertain
greater and better access to
federal, state and community
resources of the Hispanic
Community. Workshops included
“Immigration and the 2008
Campaign,” “The Mortgage Crisis
in Hispanic America,” to name a
few. Speakers were U.S.
Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral
and president and CEO of NCLR,
Janet Murguia.
