I want to thank
LATINA Style
for the opportunity
to contribute to
this issue. As I
travel across
America, I have been
inspired by the
diversity of the
crowds we’re seeing
— young and old;
Democrat and
Republican, black,
white, and Latino.
These folks are
coming out – and I’m
running for
president – because
we believe that if
we can overcome what
divides us and join
together as
Americans, then we
can transform this
country.

Growing up in Mexico
City, I was blessed
to live with three
strong Latina women:
my grandmother, my
sister, and my
mother, Maria Luisa.
From a young age,
these women taught
me the value of a
good education. I
have carried their
lessons with me
throughout my life.
My education—consisting
of a bachelor’s
degree in
international
affairs and a
master’s degree...

We entered the 21st
century filled with
hope, ready to seize
the promise of a
more prosperous
nation and a more
peaceful world. But,
during the last six
and a half years, we
have done exactly
the opposite. We
have failed to
invest in our future,
in our schools, in
our families. We
have gotten mired in
another country’s
civil war, a war
without a military
solution. And today,
too many Latino
families are falling
behind.
