Books

Leszli Kálli presents a real period of her life in her new book Kidnapped. On April 12, 1999, Kalli boarded a plane from her home in Bucaramanga, Colombia to Bogota, eagerly anticipating a new life in an Israeli kibbutz. But after making the plane transfer, terrorists from the leftist Ejercito de Liberacion Nacional took control of her flight. Kálli and her father remained prisoners for nearly 400 days of intense negotiations with Colombia’s government as Kálli filled a journal detailing her thoughts as the situation progressed. A Spanish-language version is also available for our Spanish-speaking readers.

Chicken Soup for the Latino Soul: Celebrating La Comunidad Latina is a must have self-help/inspirational book for everyone. Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and Susan Sánchez-Casal showcase the traditions of Latino culture, conveying struggles, and triumphs of the Latino experience. Learn about personal stories that explore identity, culture, and the uniqueness of family traditions.

Hijas Americanas is a bicultural ethnography of the challenges and triumphs of Latina women who have been forced to merge the conflicting realities of a culture where being treated as a credible individual often requires as much beauty as brains. But in American society, beautiful women are tall, thin and blonde. What is a Latina to do if the mirror reflects a short build, olive skin and raven hair? In an informal journalistic style, Rosie Molinary’s work offers her own experience as a first-generation American Latina coupled with statistical research and the personal accounts of women from Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Mexico.

In her down-to-earth, straightforward memoir, How I’ve Gained and Lost Millions of Dollars and Hundreds of Pounds, Jackie Guerra offers readers a lesson on living life to the fullest and making the most of every situation. The comedienne, actress, author, designer and public speaker offers an unapologetic glimpse into the challenges that she experienced as an up-and-comer in show business.
