  • Bank of America announced the 2006 recipients of its third annual “Neighborhood Excellence Initiative (NEI) Award” in Broward County, Fla. These recipients include individuals and organizations dedicated to improving the Broward County community. $450,000 was given to improve and reshape the community. Recipients were: Neighborhood Builders™, Clinica Luz Del Mundo, The Urban League of Broward County, Local Heroes™, and Student Leaders™.
     

  • Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis (CA-32) was recently named to the following subcommittees on the House Energy and Commerce Committee: Health, Telecommunications and the Internet, Environment and Hazardous Materials.
    “I am honored to be named to these important subcommittees which handle issues of direct concern to the 32nd Congressional District, including access to affordable health care and environmental quality.” she says. “I look forward to working on these and other issues which impact our district and to providing a voice for our community’s diverse population.”

 

Esther Martinez

A first generation Mexican-American, Esther Martinez is part of General Motors’ design team and a designer of one of GM’s new cars, the 2007 Saturn Aura. Born in Illinois and raised in Texas, Martinez has a degree in vehicle design and is currently a studio design engineer at GM. Among other vehicles, Martinez has worked on the Cadillac V16 show car. Martinez’ life and work at GM Design personifies the advice she gives to young people, “If you want to do something, the sky is the limit,” she says. “If you work hard you will find the opportunity to do it.”

 


 

Carmen Osbahr

The National Association of Latina Leaders recognized Carmen Osbahr as the first Latina television puppeteer in the United States. Currently, Osbahr plays Rosita on “Sesame Street” and plays the free-spirited water sprite, Lily on Disney Channel’s new Playhouse Disney series, “Johnny and the Sprites.” A native of Mexico City, Osbahrs’ appearances began on various television shows for Televisa Mexico, such as “Xe-Tu,” “Super Ondas” and “Songs of Cri-Cri.” Osbahrs’ career emerged since she officially became a Jim Henson muppet performer in 1988. Since then, her muppet credits include “The Muppets,” Disney Channel’s “Bear in the Big Blue House,” the feature film “Elmo in Grouchland” and various 3-D movies. Her other television credits include Kiki on PBS’ “Puzzle Place and Between the Lions.”
 


Deborah Montiel

Go1TV announced Deborah Montiel as its new marketing director. She will be responsible for all marketing efforts and is seeking a much more aggressive and visible stance for the network. “Ms. Montiel brings an impressive track record and diversified experience in all aspects of marketing and communications during a moment of expansion at our network,” says Rodrigo Lombello, GolTV’s COO. “Her background and industry reputation bolster our management team and ensure that we have the very best in strategic planning for 2007.”

With more than 15 years of experience in the broadcasting industry, Montiel is an expert in brand management and has been prominent in the launch of recognized properties such as HBO/Max Digital Pack in Latin America as well as the introduction of Sony Pictures AXN, which awarded her the “Promax Award” in Marketing. “I am pleased to be joining the dynamic team that put together such a successful property,” says Montiel. “The Network’s quality programming make my job that much easier, but that brings with it the responsibility of communicating this effectively to potential viewers, affiliates, and advertisers. I take this challenge to heart and will seek to increase visibility for the network and its properties in whatever manner possible.
