  • Sara Martinez Tucker was nominated as Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education. Prior to her nomination, Tucker was president and CEO of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) since 1997.

  • Ofelia Melendrez was appointed vice president of McDonald’s Corporation for the Greater Southwest Region’s operations team. “Her extensive operations background, great people skills, and proven business acumen gives me great confidence in her ability to help our owner/operators and restaurants continue to provide a great experience for our customers,” said James Collins, the former QSC vice president for the greater Southwest Region who named Melendrez to the position.

  • Susie Saavedra was promoted to legislative director for Congressman Joe Baca. As such, she is responsible for overseeing the Congressman’s legislative staff, monitor appropriations and legislative processes, providing daily vote recommendations, and managing the Congressman’s Congressional Caucus work and financial services committee assignments.

  • Recently, Lisette Jennes Olmos, was promoted to the communications director at the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). Ms. Olmos has eight years of combined professional experience with a wide range of professional background. She has worked with public and private organizations in public relations, government relations, mass media communications, and grassroots initiatives.

 

Sonie Marie De Leon de Vega: A Groundbreaking Career Woman

Sonia Marie De Leon de Vega was awarded the “Local Hero” award by KCET in Las Vegas. De Leon de Vega, a leading influence in the growing Latino culture in the United States, has achieved distinction as a creative and consummate musician. She has been noted as symphony and opera conductor, and a woman of groundbreaking career roles.

Her musical talents have inspired a large following in Southern California through live orchestral presentations, as well as an international audience through televised performances in the United States, Latin America and Europe. De Leon de Vega is associated with the Santa Cecilia Orchestra. She is also the producer and music director for the annual Opera Under the Stars concert in Los Angeles, a venue credited with launching the careers of many young operatic vocalists.

She is celebrated in educational circles for creating the dynamic “Discovering Music” program that takes orchestra members into elementary schools in underserved Latino neighborhoods to introduce children to classical music and orchestral instruments.


Jackeline Cacho

Jackeline Cacho

Jackeline Cacho was awarded by the Hispanic Women Professional Association the “National TV Personality of the Year” Award. The new face of Azteca America—the fastest growing Spanish-language network in the U.S. —Cacho embodies the spirit of triumph and hope that inspires and motivates the vast community of Latinos who have made the U.S. their home.

Cacho, a native Peruvian, has been a local weather girl and special assignments reporter at the KTMD 48, the Telemundo Houston affiliate to the flagship Univision station in San Antonio, Texas.
A self-proclaimed advocacy journalist, Cacho has received numerous awards, among them the “Outstanding Hispanic Woman” award in 2003 by the San Antonio IMAGE organization, “The          Yellow Rose of Texas” bestowed upon her by Governor Rick Perry and many more.

Today, Cacho is a respected journalist and TV media personality, a national anchor and reporter for the Azteca America Network based in Los Angeles, California.


Alice Perez

Alice Perez joined the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) as manager of Retail Services. Perez is responsible for all SMUD residential programs including the nationally recognized Greenergy®, Sacramento Shade, residential retail lighting and low-income programs. She also oversees the SMUD finance group that supports funding for energy efficiency loan programs, as well as the billing and credit teams that serve the utility’s 530,000 residential customers. Perez had been director of Multicultural Markets for US Bank since 2005. Prior to this she was the director of the Hispanic Banking Segment since 2000.


“Alice’s vast background in banking and finance as well as program development bring a lot to the position,” says Ken Floyd, SMUD director of Customer Services. “I’m confident in her ability to lead the SMUD Residential Services Department’s continuous efforts to deliver the best products for our customer owners.”
