For the fourth year in a row, the U.S. Secretary of Labor, the Honorable Elaine L. Chao served as the keynote luncheon speaker, speaking to the essence of the LATINA Style 50 program. “These awards not only encourage companies to hire and promote Latinas, but they raise the profile of positive role models for others to follow,” Chao said. “The women we honor today are an asset to their community, their employers, and to our nation.”

“Today’s program is a testament to the promise and opportunity that America provides. There is always more to be done,” she continued. “The best way to ensure this legacy continues is to help others make the same journey.”

Chao concluded her inspiring thoughts by congratulating all the winners and thanking “all the employers who have given these outstanding women the opportunity to achieve their dreams. Working together, we can continue to ensure that the doors of opportunity remain wide open for everyone.”

Following Chao’s remarks, the awards ceremony began. A Latina representative from each of the top 50 companies represented her company on stage by accepting the plaque on its behalf.

At the conclusion of the awards presentation, Macy’s presented the LATINA Style 50 Awards Ceremony and Best Practices in Diversity Conference’s first-ever working women’s fashion show. The show featured looks for the professional woman, offered options to dress from work to play, and showcased fashion for weekend fun and special events.

To close the day’s program, honored guests including CEOs and high-ranking Latinas headed to the White House’s Eisenhower Executive Office Building for an exclusive awards reception hosted by the U.S. Treasurer, the Honorable Anna Escobedo Cabral. Joining Cabral in congratulating the women of the top 50 companies were some of the White House’s highest-ranking Latinas including the newly appointed Jennifer Sevilla Korn, associate director of the Office of the Public Liaison; Maria Pia Tamburri, director of the Specialty Media; and Annie Mayol, associate director of the Office of Political Affairs. Cabral shared her experiences and encouraged those present to never forget their roots, and to stay true to their dreams.
