Hector M. Flores
National President
League of United Latin American Citizens

Dear Latina Style Readers,

As the national president of LULAC, I am exceptionally proud to have been given the opportunity to lead an organization that has fought to enhance the economic, educational, political, health, and civil rights of the Hispanic population in the communities it serves. Although there have been many advances and victories, there are still more obstacles to overcome. A large part of our success is due to the hard work of the women of LULAC. From making sure that even the youngest child is treated fairly at school to keeping up the standards for healthcare for our elderly, their contributions to our communities and their constant involvement assure that they will continue to be major players in a brighter future for all Latinas.

For many years, LULAC has included women as a vital part of an army of volunteers that has transformed LULAC into the most respected civil-rights organization in the United States and Puerto Rico. Under the banner of LULAC, women from all walks of life have contributed to the progress achieved for Latinas in our country for the past 76 years. Without the steady hand and strong resolve of our LULAC women, many of our most significant milestones could have never been achieved.

Latinas have penetrated the glass ceiling, but there are still greater heights to be reached. By attaining the most imperative tool, education, the dreams of many young women can be realized, and it is in those dreams that the future of the Latina woman is as immeasurable as her determination and dignity. It is the hope of LULAC that each woman makes the most of every gift and opportunity she has, not only as a personal victory and lesson but also as a chance to mentor other women in the Hispanic community. To begin such a legacy would truly energize the Latina population with a sense of empowerment and optimism. There are no limits to what women can do in and for our world today, and I look forward to witnessing the Latina woman’s journey into the future

Sincerely,

Hector M. Flores
