Choosing a Workplace more about the LS50 >

The numbers are sobering. We are making progress, but we still have a long way to go. So what are the main reasons behind a Latina’s selection of a company to work for? Amazingly, money is not her top consideration — in fact, it’s fifth on her list. More important are factors that affect her personal development.

Mentoring opportunities stand at the top of the list, followed by the type of inclusive environment the company provides — specifically, is there a Hispanic employee organization? Is the Hispanic organization sponsored by a senior company official? Are there Latinas or Latinos in prominent positions in the company? What kind of image does the company have in the Hispanic community? Are there educational opportunities available? Other issues important to Latinas have to do with maternity benefits, healthcare benefits and alternative work policies such as flextime and telecommuting.

Latinas with bilingual skills have a definite advantage as the customer base and the marketing environment make it essential that companies have bilingual staff on board.

Every year, we survey our readers to ascertain what factors in to their choice of an employer. We encourage you to email us your thoughts at info@latinastyle.com

For the second year in a row FOLIOfn put together a “Ready-to-Go” folio on the performance of the LATINA Style 50 companies against the stock market, LS50 stocks outperformed the market by a significant margin. Proof that diversity works? We think so.
